Current.tv Explores Adult in ‘Porn 2.0′ (XBIZ)

Current.tv’s online journalism magazine Vanguardput a positive face on the adult industry in a new segment thatexplores the problems and potential of porn in the 21st century.

The segment, titled “Porn 2.0,” includes interviews with severalstaff members at Kink.com, as well as in-depth interviews with some ofthe brass at Wicked Pictures, including contract performer JessicaDrake.
Vanguard correspondent Christof Putzel focused on of Kink.com,indirectly praising them for their good business practices and happyemployees.
Longtime Kink.com director Tomcat revealed that what she sawas a “three-month” gig has turned into a promising career, while KinkAffiliate Manager Terry said that his job doesn’t seem like porn atall.
“It’s more, ‘here’s the product, and here’s the customer,’ and bridging that gap however you can,” he said.
In the package, Putzel says that online porn makes $3 billion ayear, though he offers no attribution for that figure. At the sametime, he offer the striking statistics that every second, 266 new adultwebsites go live, while every minute, 2 million people look at pornonline — with 70 percent of that traffic coming during the standardworkday.
But the segment makes a tonal shift when the topic of piracycomes up. Wicked Owner Steve Orenstein notes that video-sharing siteshave sapped revenues from adult companies. At the same time, theproliferation of cheap video cameras have brought about the advent ofgonzo porn. Drake lamented that development.
“Something that the Internet did do was make a lot of peoplethink they could just pick up a camera and become a director,” shesaid.
At the same time, though, Drake said that the industry canfight back against piracy with interactivity, specifically the kind of”day in the life of” content that she shoots for her own site.
“I definitrely think it’s the future of the industry,” she said. “I think that 100 percent.”
